Puzzle Games: Brain Teaser Apps you can enjoy while being in a lockdown

July 19, 2020 Miscellaneous
puzzle games

Most of the countries are still in lockdown. If youre country is already open, you are still advised to stay at home since the notorious Covid-19 is still at large and no vaccines yet are available in the market.

One of the activities you can do to ease your boredom is to play games.

Yes, there are console games that are available and also there are PC games you can enjoy. Not to mention the mobile games that most of the youths enjoy nowadays (like ML or LOL or even PUBG).

But what if you want to enjoy some brain-teaser puzzle apps in your mobile?

What is a puzzle?

According to Wikipedia, a puzzle is a game, problem or a toy that tests ingenuity or knowledge. One of the common puzzle toy that we know is the Rubik’s cube.

In a similar fashion, puzzle apps are mobile applications that are derived from real-life puzzle toys and games. They are intended to be enjoyed by both adults and kids.

Although most of the mobile puzzle games are driven by monetary gains (thru subscriptions, accessory sellings etc), you can still enjoy each games objective on their free versions.

There are two main reasons why people play these kind of games:

1. Increase problem-solving and other skills.

2. Ease up boredom.

Here are some of the puzzle apps that I recommend playing or installing onto your smartphone (note that I am not affiliated with these companies who created these games) :

Sudoku.com

sudoku app

Creator: EasyBrain Ltd.

Puzzle Type: Numbers, Logic

Difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard

This game implements the classic sudoku puzzle – where you need to fill in numbers (1 to 9) that only appears once in each of the 9 rows, columns, and blocks.
The good feature of this game is that it will inform you if the number you put into a cell is correct one. In the classic sudoku puzzle, you wont know your mistakes until you fill up all the numbers.

Wordscapes

Creator: PeopleFun

Game Type: Words, Vocabulary

Difficulty: N/A

This game was trending during the year 2016-2018 (and I think still there are users who are fond of this game). The premise of this is to find valid english words that you can form from a group of 6 letters given on each level. Your vocabulary skills can be developed as you need to find the words within 6 letters that are given.

Let Me Out

Creator: Gaga Games

Game Type: Puzzles, Logic

Difficulty: N/A

This vehicle-themed mobile puzzle app has at least 4 games that you can choose from (main game, road build, road fill, and num cargo). These various games can improve your logic by solving different puzzles, from rearranging the boxes to moving vehicles in a grid. This is a free app but if you want to unlock more games and the levels, as well as remove the ads, they have subscription offerings.

Nonogram

Creator: Zephyrmobile

Game Type: Puzzle, Numbers, Logic

Difficulty: Easy, Medium, Hard

The game is somewhat similar to sudoku, but it is a lot more with painting a whole grid with number instructions on rows and columns. It has easy, medium and hard modes. If you want another sudoku but with more painting, you can choose this game instead.

Fill

Creator: MagicAnt

Game Type: Puzzle, Logic

Difficulty: N/A

As the title suggests, Fill is a one-line puzzle game that is both brain-simulating and fun at the same time. The objective is to fill all the boxes of the grid from one cell into the end cell with only forming a single line. This game can improve your logic, as you need to be logical enough to find the single line (path) that will fill from one cell to the end cell.

4 Pics 1 Word

Creator: Lotum GmbH

Game Type: Words, Vocabulary, Logic

Difficulty: N/A

This is another popular word game that was trending before (same with Wordscapes). The premise of the game was simple, given a set of letters, you just need to guess the word that is common between the four pictures that was shown on each level. By playing this game, your vocabulary can increase as well as your critical thinking as you need to realize the common words for the pictures.

There are other games that you can find thru google play or app store. I wont be covering for every puzzle games, you can just find it on your own. Just remember that not all games available aren’t bad for your kids or yourself. As long as it exercises your mind to think, that is all that matters. Play safe and stay safe!
